Royal Challengers Bangalore opted to field first, both teams were playing with the same side. Delhi Capitals fairly depend on their openers. Both the openers gave Delhi the opening stand of 88 runs. Harshal Patel’s slower ball gets well set Shikhar (43), 30th wicket for Harshal in IPL 2021. The very next over Prithvi Shaw (48) throws his wicket away.
Delhi Capitals couldn’t capitalize on the start they got from openers, they lost wickets in regular intervals. When it came to accelerating skipper Pant (10), and Shreyas Iyer (18) lost their wicket.
Shimron Hetmyer (29) played a couple of big shots but RCB’s bowlers were too good. Only 36 runs came off the last 30 balls. Delhi Capitals were 88-0 in the first 10 overs then they finished on 164-5, not the score they expected to finish. Siraj (2 for 25), Harshal Patel (1 for 34) helped RCB to restrict Delhi for 164.
RCB’s chase started with two quick wickets of skipper Virat (4), and Padikkal (0). Nortje gets two big fishes in 2 overs. Ab De Villiers was promoted to control the inning and he played a couple of good shots. But the pressure was building on him and eventually, ABD (26) gets out attempting a big shot.
Maxwell (51) along with young Srikar Bharat (78) formed a partnership of unbeaten 111 runs. 19 runs were needed off the last 2 overs but excellent bowling from Nortje, he gave just 4 runs. Eventually, 5 runs were needed off the last ball and Srikar Bharat hit a six on the last ball and win it for RCB. Dropped catches, and poor fielding from Delhi Capitals cost them the match.
Only Anrich Nortje was impressed with bowling, he took 2 wickets for just 24 runs and gave just 4 runs in the 19th over.
Srikar Bharat gets the player of the match award for his winning knock of 78 runs.
