This was a must win game for Punjab Kings won the toss and choose to bowl first. They made 3 changes Fabian Allen, Mayank, Shahrukh Khan replaces Chris Gayle, Mandeep, and Harpreet Brar. Kolkata also made 2 changes, the debut boy Tim Seifert replaces Lockie and Mavi comes in place of Sandeep Warrier.
The Knight Riders got an early blow of Shubman (7) at 18 runs, his form is a real worry now. Iyer and Tripathi had a partnership of 72 runs before Ravi Bishnoi dismisses Tripathi (34). It was a good opportunity for Kkr to carry this momentum to score big but the Kings made a comeback. The well-set Venkatesh Iyer (67) lost his wicket to Bishnoi after a brilliant fifty. In the last seven overs, the knight riders made only 61 runs and lost 7 wickets. The skipper Morgan is a real worry for Kkr now, he averages 10.90 from 11 innings in IPL 2021.
Arshdeep Singh’s 3 wickets for 32 runs and Ravi Bishnoi’s 2 wickets for 22 runs bring Punjab Kings back in the game.
Punjab Kings required a good opening partnership, Mayank and Skipper KL Rahul had 70 runs partnership before Chakravarthy gets Mayank (40).
Rahul and Markram formed a partnership together and bring the game towards Punjab Kings. Even though Punjab never wins a game easily and same did happen here. Punjab could have lost the match if Shahrukh Khan wouldn’t score that quick 22. Punjab Kings won the do or die match by 5 wickets.
Varun Chakravarthy bowled amazingly with 2 wickets and just 24 runs.
KL Rahul gets the player of the match award for his match-winning 67 runs but most importantly he played with temperament.
